My Favourite Song for Now

Heard Kelly Clarkson singing this on American Idol 3 weeks back, I was like OMG - this song is madness, love the tune, lyrics, everything about it. Seacrest asked if she was singing particularly about anyone but she said no, it's really hard to believe given the way she owned the song. I think Kelly is one of the most talented pop singers we have right now. Am using it as a ringtone on my Dopod.

Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Such Without You

Looks like there's someone out there after all

I woke up this morning and found that my stats counter has increased by 5 counts since last night, meaning some living souls has found their way to my blog. Yeah! 6 billion ppl on planet earth. In my excitment, I've decided to post a tip on Powerpoint.

Know when you do your presentation and someone ask an OT question halfway. So while answering that weird question, you think it's a good idea to show a blank screen. Here's the solution:

In the mode of Slideshow, if you want to show a blank black screen press Shift B. And if you want a blank white screen, press Shift W. Ain't this cool
One more thing, pressing Shift P doesn't give you a pink/purple screen. If you want pink, please write to Mr Gates. Anyway a screen capture below to show what a blank black screen looks like in case.. (Just in case, ok)

Anybody else visited my Blog?

It's been more than 1 week and nobody seems to have visited my blog, not even 1 person. Search engines and webcrawlers aren't that effective yet (given they have millions of new websites to pick up everyday) and I don't really want to tell my friends. I mean who does a blog posting tips on Microsoft excel.

Anyway I'm considering whether to post more stuff. If there's anyone who ever come here, please could you do me a big favour and drop me a comment or email, so that at least I know there's another person living on this planet (I heard earth has a population of more than 6,000,000,000) but just so it verfies what I've heard. Thanks !!

Access: 01 - Getting Unique Records in Query

I didn't know this until a few days back, where my US colleague shared with me how you can get unique records in Access queries. Always thought I was the Access expert in my company, but this simple trick showed me you can always learn something.
Previously, when there are duplicate rows, I would first create a make table query, then do a select query on that new table using a count for whatever field is being duplicated. I know it sounds dumb, at least I'm making things happen. But this is really great, so here goes:

First you open up your query, so say it's a select query. Right click on the empty space beside the tables that you've chosen, and choose 'Properties'.

Next you should see a small box with the word 'Query Properties' at the top. Go to 'Unique Values' and choose 'Yes'. And there you have it.

Excel: 01 - Increase default no of worksheets in workbooks

I'll start off with this very basic tip - how to increase the default no of worksheets whenever you open a excel workbook. You're asking why this one, I mean it's so simple right, surely everyone knows.
Well because I was in the office one day (no I'm not Sohoing and have go to office 5 days a week) when someone asked 'Why does your excel have 5 sheets, while others have only 3'. My answer was: I work harder than everyone else.. I mean whatever, you could have as many worksheett you wanted, 10, 20, (actually there's a limit but I'm sure it's more than you'll ever need). So then I realized: everything is something new to someone.

Anyway, here it goes:

First you go to Tools --> Options.

Then at the 'General' tab, you see slightly below the halfway mark something which says 'Sheets in new workbook'. Over there change 3 to the no of worksheets you would like to have as default and click 'Ok'. Then close and and re-open excel and we're done.

Introduction

And so I finally decided, what I'm going to blog about in cyberspace. I've used various MS Office applications for quite a while and have gained some skills on how to do certain tips and tricks. Thought this would be the best way to share it online - blogging.

Most of what I will post would be mainly be related to MS Excel or MS Access as these are the 2 applications which usually people need technical help. But if there's anything you need to know in your work or a project, feel free to drop me a comment or email me at sci80899@gmail.com and I'll try my best to help.
